Twilight star's new movie shooting in Millbrook
MILLBROOK - Hollywood superstar Robert Pattinson will be in Millbrook on Tuesday to shoot a scene for his latest movie.
“He’ll be here,” said Colin Hall, co-owner of the Pastry Peddler in downtown Millbrook.
Pattinson, star of the Twilight series, will be working with his own security team, Hall said, and there’s no guarantee that anyone is going to get a chance to meet him.
But there’s always a chance they’ll get to peddle a few sweets to crew members, and maybe even an assistant of Pattinson’s, he said.
So Hall spent Monday afternoon baking up a storm, with plans to open at 7 a.m., 2 1/2 hours early, to sell treats to a few hungry fans and crew members Tuesday morning.
“It should be fun,” he said. “We’re armed and ready.”
Much of the set construction was already well underway in the village Monday afternoon, transforming the downtown into a scene from the 1950s for the movie Life, which is about photographer Dennis Stock's work with emerging actor James Dean in the 1950s. Dane DeHaan is portraying Dean in Anton Corbijn's biopic.
The Pastry Peddler’s facade is taking on the look of a shoe store, Hall said, while the computer business across has taken on the appearance of a carpet and upholstery store.
Hall believed the shoot would only last for about seven hours on Tuesday, and amount to just a moment or two in the movie itself.
“It’s quite a piece of work to do,” he said.
The eatery is in the same space that was used for David Cronenberg's A History of Violence, filmed in Millbrook in 2004.
Sunshine Sketches of a Small Town was also shot there in 2011.
Disney's 2003 television movie The Music Man with Matthew Broderick and 2005 feature movie The Ice Princess also had scenes filmed in Millbrook.
Hall attributed the strong show business interest in Millbrook to the fact that the downtown strip can easily transform into another place in time with little difficulty.
Much of that is due to the fact that there are no overhead telephone lines anywhere in the village, Hall said, which makes it difficult for viewers to stamp a date on the location.
“It’s got that real historical feel to it,” Hall said. “It can make shots seem really timeless.”.
